ONU Enclosures

This modular fiber optic enclosure 11 comprises a base module 13 and termination module 15. The base module provides access for feeding cable 19, while simultaneously offering multiple ports to route subscriber cables 41 into and out of ONU enclosure. Ports for both feeder and subscriber cables can be found along the sidewalls of base module 13.

A modular fiber optic enclosure may be constructed from plastic, metal or another suitable material; alternatively it may be molded as one piece and even equipped with a tamper resistant seal to prevent unauthorised entry to its interior.

At times, an ONU enclosure may be employed as part of an FTTH GPON system to deliver high-speed broadband service to residential subscribers over fiber-to-the-home networks. Here, it serves as a wall mountable cabinet housing an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that receives and processes downstream telecommunication signals from an FTTH service provider before converting them to appropriate formats suitable for transmission to customer premise equipment (CPE).
